Presentation: “Understanding Gypsum Fire Rated Assemblies”
Chris Davidson, CTR – ENERCORP
One of the most critical issues for Architects is ensuring that building design addresses fire-safety issues. Fire-resistance ratings have long been used to measure the performance of various constructions for fire containment purposes. The natural fire-resistant properties of gypsum make it an ideal material for fire containment. This presentation will focus on the proper use and application of gypsum fire rated partitions to achieve code compliance and conform to design criteria. There will also be a brief introduction to two new innovative CGC products, Securock Exo Air 430 Air Barrier System and Securock Structural Panels
Upon completion of this presentation, Attendees will develop a better understanding of:
- Gypsums physical properties and performance under fire conditions
- Code compliance and testing of fire rated assemblies
- Types of fire-resistant panels, systems, and applications
- Proper use and application of shaft wall assemblies
- Control joints in fire rated assemblies.
- Repairing fire rated partitions
Chris Davidson has 20 years of experience in the gypsum industry beginning with various roles with a major gypsum board manufacturer. He currently works with Enercorp Inc., a national manufacturer's representative firm that specializes in building envelope products and systems.
