LUNCHEON MEETING NOTICE

Presentation: Selecting The Correct Underslab Membrane

Presented by: Russ Snow - CTR, CSP, BSSO, LEED AP

Building Envelope Product Group Manager/Building Science Specialist

W.R. MEADOWS of Canada

Presentation Information:

The first line of defence for protection of a building and its occupants starts below the concrete floor slab. Recently, not only has the concern been water vapour, but also soil contaminants. Radon and Methane, two naturally occurring contaminents, have been identified as being major issues for occupant health and safety. The continued constructionin densely populated areas have dictated that brownfield sites are developed, bringing into play other types of contaminents in the fomr of hydrocarbons.

This presentation will address the origin of these various contaminents and their effects, along with differentiating between and underslab moisture barrier and an underslab gas barrier. In addition, specific materials and their installation details will be discussed providing complete underslab protection.

Currently the Building Envelope Product Group Manager/Building Science Specialist for W.R. MEADOWS, Russell Snow CTR, CSP, BSSO, LEED AP, has over 20 years of experience in the construction industry, including building envelope, concrete restoration and prodcuts used in the treatment of concrete.Presently his main responsibility is overseeing the building envelope line of products for W.R. MEADOWS, which also includes providing technical support to all members of the construction industry, including the W.R. MEADOWS sales team in both Canada and the U.S. Other responsiblities include the development of specifications at the architectural/engineering level and the creation of presentations for continuing education programs through AEC Daily, the American Institute of Architects and various other organizations. Russell attained his LEED Accredited Professional Designation in April 2008.

Russell currently serves as President of the Air Barrier Association of America and is a member of the ASTM E06, ASTM D08 and American Concrete Institute committees.
