PRACTICAL MASONRY CONSERVATION
While Canada has few truly 'old' masonry structures, there is a wealth of masonry buildings constructed through the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This was a period that we saw many developments in construction materials and techniques. Since then, the conservation and maintenance of masonry structures have evolved similarly, including its materials, techniques, and professional guidelines. Attendees will learn some of the context for current conservation efforts on masonry structures, develop an understanding of problems that are commonly encountered with historic masonry structures, and learn about approaches and techniques that can be used in their conservation.
PRESENTER
Jonathan Dee, P.Eng., is a structural engineer and Principal at John G. Cooke & Associates Ltd., in the companys Hamilton office. His 19 years of professional experience have focused exclusively on the maintenance, modification, and re-use of existing or historic structures and building envelopes. In addition to his membership with the CSC (Construction Specifications Canada), Jonathan is recognised as a Consulting Engineer by the Professional Engineers Ontario and is a member of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals.
